What is the need for Maitri?
India has 103.9 million elderly, out of which 39 per cent have been abandoned by their families. Meanwhile, out of 8% of India’s 30 million orphaned and abandoned children get to have a family, of which nearly 70% are in the 0-2 age group. Research shows that one in every two elderly individuals suffers from loneliness and depression, while orphaned children severely lack the nurturing love of elderly figures.
Maitri tackles both the issues simultaneously, allowing the old-age homes and orphanages to sign up and organise meetings, thus facilitating children at orphanages and senior citizens at old-age homes to spend time together. This will improve their social and mental well-being. At the same time, our app provides a platform where willing individuals can donate their time, funds, and other items to old-age homes.
How does Maitri work?
Three types of users can sign up on Maitri - old age homes, orphanages and individuals.
OLD-AGE HOMES AND ORPHANAGES:
Through Maitri, old age homes and orphanages can benefit from specific donations as per your requirements, increased number of volunteers, and improved social and mental health of your residents.
Simply complete your profile on the 'My Profile' page, entering the funds and donations you require, number of residents, and other details.
Through Maitri, old-age home and orphanages can connect with each other. If you're an administrator of an old-age home, for instance, you can:
- View details of orphanages near you
- Make phone calls
- Send emails, Whatsapp messages, and SMS
- View and navigate to locations on Google Maps
- Visit websites
And vice-versa if you're an administrator of an orphanage!
Thus, you can easily contact each other and organise meetings for your residents.
INDIVIDUALS:
Maitri offers you all the details and facilities needed to volunteer and donate to old age homes and orphanages near you, at your fingertips!
You can view profiles of nearby old age homes and orphanages, contact them easily, and organise volunteer visits to them. You can see their specific requirements of funds and items like clothing, books, and so on, and donate accordingly.
COMMUNITY HUB:
All users can share photos and stories of successful meetings, experiences of volunteering, requests for help in organising a meeting, call for volunteers for any event, and much more on Maitri's Community Hub!
